Krakow, April 14 th 2025

Dear Members,

We hope this e-mail finds you well. It has been twenty-seven years
since the establishment of the European Society of Surgery.
Now, we are approaching the 27th ESS Annual Meeting, which
will take place in Bari, Italy, on 5-7 October 2025.
We will share further details with you soon.

In the meantime, we have been reflecting on our mission
and accomplishments so far. The core mission of the European Society
of Surgery upon its establishment in 1997 was to build bridges
between surgeons from the so-called "old Europe" and "new Europe"
and to provide a platform for them to share knowledge and experiences,
as well as develop relationships. Both the world and our field have
changed since then and - given the current state of the discipline
- our mission has been accomplished. It was possible thanks not only to
our efforts, but also to the enlargement of the EU and the development
of digital technology.

Now that the gap between the "old Europe" and "new Europe"
countries has been bridged, we want to continue fostering relationships
and facilitating the exchange of ideas and information, using our experience
to help a new generation of surgeons from all over Europe.
To achieve this goal, we came up with the following initiatives:

  • Strengthening our social media presence. We have been on Facebook
for several years, and now, we are also on LinkedIn.
    Our profile: https://www.linkedin.com/company/european-society-of-surgery/
  • Article of the Month - each month, we would like to promote a surgical
scientific paper, especially by young scientists.
  • Sharing professional experiences of surgeons from different European countries. We would like to encourage people to present their daily work
life and the realities of their workplaces on our social media, as this will be
an interesting opportunity to learn about approaches, organisational
    models, procedures, etc.

We would appreciate it if you could spread the word about our initiatives
and encourage your colleagues to participate. Additionally, we would like to
highlight some initiatives and events organised by other organisations:

We look forward to your active participation in the upcoming Annual Meeting
and support of the presented initiatives.

Warm regards,
ESS Secretary General Antoni Szczepanik
ESS President
Mario Testini
